Chickens & Eggs
We have approximately 1000 free range laying hens, which are currently Lohmann Browns. They range in the field during the day and are housed at dusk for their own safety. (Mr Fox is never far away!) They produce lovely brown eggs with a rich-coloured yolk and are graded daily into Very Large, Large and Medium sizes. A large proportion of the eggs are sold at the farmers’ markets but we also encourage wholesale enquiries and already supply a range of local farm shops, restaurants, cafes and hotels.
Freedom to Roam
Our free range meat chicken go outside from approximately 4 weeks old (depending on the time of year and the weather conditions) where they have the freedom to roam on fresh grass fields. At night they return to their spacious houses which are freshly bedded with wood shavings. The feed used for our chicken contains 70% cereal products and no animal protein, antibiotics or growth promoters. For the farmers’ markets as well as whole chicken, in a variety of sizes, we also sell a wide range of chicken portions including boneless breasts, thighs, drumsticks, wings and liver, as well as making a selection of chicken sausages and burgers including our new gluten free Mediterranean sausages.
